The age of spreading education as a duty to society, by the already educated ones are long gone. Now education isn’t just restricted to being an ‘institution’, it is now an independent field of ‘businesses. The ‘Education business’, where people with capitals ‘invest’ their capitals and get returns in a few years.
Engineering and Medical training is the cream of this investment field. Lakhs of engineers and doctors are being churned out by private and public engineering and medical colleges. Given below is a list of the most expensive colleges in the country. Some of these colleges are not exactly one of the cogs of the graduate churner.

10. Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (Aprox. Rs. 36000 per semester)
Motto: “Truth Triumphs, Falsehood Never”
The college located in Patiala, Punjab is affiliated to UGC, NAAC was established in 1956. It is ranked 4th among the private colleges in India. It was granted autonomy in 1985. The university has star studded alumni. It has been signed in with Trinity University of Dublin to take part in imparting global standard education. The college has PG strength of 600+ and a teaching staff of 250+.
9. BITS, Pilani (Fee per semester up to Rs 40750)
Motto: “Knowledge is Power Supreme”
Birla Institute of Technology and Science, or Bits Pilani as it is usually called, was established in 1964 and is one of the most coveted engineering Universities in India. The college has a yearly graduate number of 2698 and staff strength of 280. The university is backed by GD Birla. The university organises its own admission test for engineering called the BITSAT. It’s a fully residential institute. The acceptance rate of BITS is 1.47% or lower, so only the top few get a chance to study in the college.
8. The IITs (approx Rs. 57800 per semester)
They are the most coveted engineering colleges of India and the only one in this list which is governmental. There are a total of 20 functioning IITs in all of India and only the best of the best get a chance to be a part of it. The IITs have a common admission process, the IIT JEE, now called the JEE advanced. The post graduate admissions are through the GATE exams. The institutes also offer BSc and MBA degrees. The fee hike in the B.Tech programs recently is a subject of hot debate in public forums.
7. Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (approx Rs. 62500 per semester)
Motto: “Knowledge is Leadership”
The university located in Gandhinagar of Gujarat was established in 2001. It is backed by the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group. They have Undergraduate student strength of 1110 and Post Graduate strength of 150 with a teaching body of 70. It’s the first university in India to offer degrees for Information and Communication Technology.
6. BIT, Mesra (approx. Rs. 88000 per semester)
Motto: “Learning is which Liberates”
The university was established in 1955 in Mesra of Jharkhand and is affiliated to AICTE, ACU, AIU, PCI, NAAC, NBA, and UGC. It has UG student strength of 2955 and PG strength of 1013 with a teaching body of 300. It was backed by B.M Birla. The main campus is wholly residential. There are additional extensions in Jaipur, Noida, Kolkata, Patna, Ranchi, Deogarh, Ras-al Khaimah, UAE and Muskat.
5. The LNM Institute of Information Technology (approx Rs. 146500 per semester)
Motto: “Excellence our motto, Discipline our way”
The university situated in Jaipur is affiliated to UGC and autonomous and was established in 2003. They have student strength of 1200 per semester. The university considers JEE MAINS and also the DASA mode before it offers admissions to its students. Also, the college offers direct admission to boys within 10th position and girls within 20th position in the Plus II exams conducted by Rajasthan State Education Board. And even though it is one of the non-profit organisations the fee structure makes it one of the most expensive engineering colleges in India.
4. Lovely Professional University (total expenditure Rs. 297000)

The university in Jalandar, Punjab established in 2005 is affiliated to UGC, AIU, NCTE, PCI, COA, and BCI. It has a student body of 30000 with a teaching staff of 5000. The university is known to organise a lot of exchange programs with the universities it is connected to in Poland China, USA, Germany, UK, UAE, MIT, Australia, Singapore, Canada, Brazil and Ghana. The university was the hot seat of racial violence a few years in 2011, and the management has been known to cover up a few more attacks which happened since.
3. SRM University (fees approx. Rs. 450000 per Year)
Motto: “Learn, Leap, Lead”
The Sri Sri Ramaswamy Memorial University was established in 1985 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It has additional campuses in Kattankulathur, Ramapuram, Vadapalani, Thiruchirapalli, NCR, Sonepath and Gangtok. The university became autonomous in 2006. It has been named as the #1 private universities in India by multiple forums. Top rankers are given a semester abroad in institutions like MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Uni of California, Uni of Wisconsin, Birmingham City university. Scholarships are limited though and most students are supported by their families in their time abroad.
2. Manipal University (approx. Rs 2, 01250 per semester)
Motto: “Inspired by Life”
The university was established in 1956 in Manipal, Karnataka. The campus is affiliated to UGC, ACU, and AIU and has total staff of 2500+7200 and a student body of 28000 from over 52 countries. The university has many campuses in Malaysia Bangalore, Sikkim, Mangalore, Jaipur, Dubai and Antigua. The campus has a feel of many Ivy League and North American universities. The students more often than not belong to wealthy reputed families. Its legal name is Manipal Academy of Higher Education. The main campus is as big 600 acres and divided into two parts- the health sciences and the engineering campus.

The college established in 1995 became a full scale university in 2003. The university has a staggering student body of 125000 and a staff of 4500. The university located in Noida, India is affiliated to UGC, AIU, ACU, and NAAC. It is the first university in India to implement caste based reservations. It was ranked within 30 universities of India. Its BBA and LLB programs were ranked at number 1 in India. It was one of the 300 universities in Asia. Amity University has additional campuses in London, Dubai, Singapore, Mauritius, New Jersey and China.
Some of these colleges provide the best engineering educations in the whole of Asia. However the lacks of placement opportunities give these institutions a bad name.
